Welcome to the Asia Pacific Travel Health Society!
We are a Society dedicated to promoting travel medicine in the Asia Pacific Region. Although only founded in 2000 during the 3rd Asia Pacific Travel Health Conference (APTHC) in Bali, the first APTHC was held in Hong Kong as early as1996, and the second APTHC was held in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1998. Past conferences of APTHS have since taken place in Shanghai (China), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Bangkok (Thailand), Melbourne (Australia) and Nara (Japan).
Travelling is our passion, and protecting travellers from travel associated diseases even more so. The Asia Pacific region is particularly interesting as this is the region where international travel and tourist arrivals are growing most rapidly.
The enormous global mobility increasingly brings with it an increase in health risks for travellers and host populations alike, together with greater risks for the environment and for the cultural identity of the people of the world.
To truly represent the travel health needs in our region, we need to foster this area of expertise. Membership is FREE until 2012, and can be done electronically. Do join us so that you can also receive a discount for the registration fee at the next conference of the Asia Pacific Travel Health Society.
As mentioned past conferences of our society have been based in Taipei, Hong Kong, and Bali, The next conference will be in Singapore, 2-5 May 2012. This conference will also be the regional conference of the International Society of Travel Medicine: www.apthc2012.org
